FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Stone slabs in Arizona are typically sold in 2 different thicknesses
- 2 CM ( 3/4″) generally laminated to form a thicker edge and installed on sub-support, usually plywood. Slabs cost less, but labor is higher due too many consumables used in the labor process.
- 3 CM ( 1 1/4″) typically with no laminated edge installed directly on cabinets. Slabs cost more, but labor is less and combined is at a lower cost than most of 2cm projects.

What is the cost of stone countertops?
- Cost is based on multiple factors like the square feet of your layout, placement of countertops, premium edges and more. Price is provided on initial estimate, following the final price upon material selection. Quotes are provided at no cost or obligation.
- More accurate quotes have to include the customer’s information on cabinet layout, type of sink, stove or cook top. If drawings only are available for estimate, then typically 1 1/2″ or 2″ overhang where applicable and your preference of backsplash (4″ height are standard) are requested.
- Remnants are available for smaller projects at considerable savings.

What type of sink should you choose?
There are a variety of sinks to choose, from material they are made to type and size. Most common used in Arizona are stainless steel and granite composite. The sink should complement the appliances and vice versa. We offer kitchen and bathroom sinks for convenience.
What backsplash size should you choose?
That will depend on preference mostly. Standard backsplash is 4” in height. Different other options are available, sometimes even recommendable due to complications that may appear due to other factors present in the project, example will be backsplash covering an electrical outlet. Full backsplash are also available, dramatically increasing the focus point and value of the kitchen.
What about sealer?
Sealant is applied after project installation and to preserve the stone shine, it could be repeated once a year or whenever necessary.
Is food cutting on granite safe?
It can be done, though not recommendable. Cutting on stone will dull your knifes very fast, there are some rocks that are not indestructible, like marble and limestone and few other materials out there that will stain. There are too many invariables to fully recommend food preparing on granite, therefore we strongly suggest a cutting board. Request for one from the company, we will be happy to have one polished for you to save and preserve the quality of your countertops.
Where should you have the seam line?
- Best idea of seam is in sink or cook-top center, visibly reducing the line to only few inches in front and back of the respective materials. Based on countertop dimensions and slab sizes, will render the seam in those locations impossible, so alternative should be found.
- Information about seam lines will be presented before contract is signed.
- At the moment Moderno KB offers 6 edges: square edge, beveled edge (can be in different sizes 1/4″, 1/2″, 3/4″ and 1″ ), demi-bullnose, full-bull nose , ogee and chiseled.
Stone edge should be all about the cabinet lines. Example: square or beveled edge from the countertop goes very well with straight modern lines of the kitchen cabinets.
